It’s time to explore a new group! A lot of people have been comparing them to VIXX, and as a Starlight, I interestingly never saw the connection until people pointed it out. I personally feel they are more like NU’EST when they first debuted.
This is a nice fast-paced and fun song to get everyone’s attention. The lyrics flow really nicely in this song and the composition around the chorus is great. Like NU’EST, they have a dubstep dance break. Unfortunately, this dubstep break is much messier than that in “Face.” The rap doesn’t fit at all with the rest of the song. I think that part could have been taken out or at least toned down.
First of all, I love the whole mask concept. One thing they do have in common with VIXX so far is that this group is willing to sacrifice camera-time for the sake of keeping up with their concept characters, which I think is very admirable. It is such a creative idea, and very appropriate for a brand new group, to have each member masked and only unmasked when their part in the song comes up. It is also a nice touch to leave one member’s identity a secret, building up anticipation for the next comeback.
The editing is also really nice in this video. The scenes switch in perfect synchronization with the beat of the song. The rooms are simple, but contrast with each other enough to keep things interesting.
This is pretty standard wardrobe for a dance-in-the-box music video. The jackets and embellishments on the clothing all look great. All of the outfits suit the backgrounds and general style of this video really well. I’m not a fan of the white striped pants or the all-white look, but in general everything looks good.
You know I love domino effects, and this dance has a lot of them! This whole choreography is really dynamic. There is always something going on, and they use their members really well. There are few moments where everyone is doing the exact same thing, which makes for a much more interesting dance.
Even though the dubstep part may not fit with the rest of the song, the choreography is the best part of the dance. I love how they pull one of the members through the arms of two others to begin the dance break. Everything that follows is just as interesting.
Overall, I am pretty impressed with this group so far. This video wasn’t anything outstanding, but it offers something new with the whole mask concept and they proved that they are good performers from the skilled dancing and how they maintain character throughout the whole video. Nice job, A6P!
Overall Final Score: 4.2/5
Question of the Day:
Thoughts on the whole mask concept?
#NowPlaying: Big Deal by NU’EST. This post put me in a NU’EST mood, and I have really been liking this song recently, a huge reason being JR’s rap.
